An Elmore City man was arrested Thursday on an allegation that he killed his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend and then disposed of the body by dismembering it and discarding the pieces in a pond, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation reported.
Justin Hammer, 30, was apprehended as a result of a traffic stop near his home about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, the OSBI reported. He was booked into the Garvin County Jail on one count of first-degree murder.
The bureau reported that its agents were alerted to the slaying Wednesday night after a witness told authorities that Hammer had admitted to shooting a man the night before, cutting the body into pieces with a saw, and placing the body parts, cement and water into numerous five-gallon buckets.
The witness claimed to have seen the buckets, blood smears and items used in the killing, according to information released Thursday evening by the OSBI.
The same witness also told agents that Hammer gathered several items -- including a mop, clothing, and towels -- apparently used to clean the blood inside Hammer's house and took them to a burn barrel, where he burned them, the OSBI reported.
Agents have served a search warrant at Hammer's home and collected several items possibly used in the homicide and dismemberment of the body, according to the OSBI.
The agency reported that investigators were draining a pond on Hammer's property searching for the victim’s remains.
OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown did not release the victim's name Thursday evening.
Once the remains are found, the Medical Examiner’O office will collect DNA for a positive identification, according to the OSBI.
