NORTH HOLLYWOOD -- A 21-year-old man accused of stabbing his 68- year-old roommate to death today during a fight was arrested today in North Hollywood, police said.
The stabbing in the 12900 block of Vanowen Street happened about 2:40 a.m., said Los Angeles police Officer Robert Collier of the North Hollywood Station.
The victim, whose name was not released, died at the scene.
Police believe the suspect, Manuel Garcia-Perez, got into an altercation with his girlfriend.
"The roommate attempted to intervene and stop the suspect from assaulting his girlfriend when he was stabbed by the suspect," Officer Wendy Reyes of the LAPD Media Relations Section said in a written statement. "The victim suffered multiple traumatic injuries as a result of the assault."
Garcia-Perez fled the scene wearing only jeans, but was found near Barbara Ann Street and Bellaire Avenue around 1:30 p.m., Reyes said. He was arrested and booked for murder and domestic violence. Garcia-Perez is being held without bail.
