SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC --
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a triple shooting that occurred on Sunday afternoon at 490 Rosedale Drive.
Two of the victims are dead and one was air lifted to the hospital.
According to Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright, around 12:30 Sunday afternoon Jefferson Perry shot and killed his wife Barbra Perry. He then walked across the street shot and killed his neighbor and brother-in-law Donald Stephens.
Wright says that Perry then shot Donald’s Wife Gloria Stephens. She was air lifted to the hospital and is expected to be okay.
Heather Pace (their granddaughter) ran for help and a nearby deputy heard the commotion and responded.
A chase then began between the deputies and Perry, who was driving an older model silver Buick.
Sheriff Wright gave the orders to stop him when they had the opportunity.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol assisted Spartanburg County and was able to stop Perry. He wrecked on I-85 at Mile Marker 92 in Cherokee County near Gaffney.
Sheriff Wright said Perry got out of his vehicle, loaded a weapon, then aimed it at the deputies. A Spartanburg County Deputy shot Perry one time.
Perry is expected to be okay.
Sheriff Wright says that deputies responded to Perry’s address on Friday but a report was not taken.
Traffic was backed up for several miles on Interstate 85 Sunday afternoon, but traffic cleared by the evening hours. Witnesses said the neighborhood was quiet and peaceful before this incident.
SLED investigators are looking into the shooting, which is standard procedure any time law enforcement uses a weapon.
