A 21-year-old man was killed and two other people were injured early Sunday when a gunman opened fire as people were leaving a city bar that was closing for the night, Reading police said.
The Berks County coroner's office identified the victim as 21-year-old Ramon Rosario-Evangelista of the 600 block of North 12th Street.
An autopsy was done Sunday night, but Deputy Coroner Gretchen Weyandt said that information on the cause and manner of death was being withheld at the request of city police.
Police also would not release the names and addresses of the two people injured in the shooting but identified them as Rosario-Evangelista's 21-year-old girlfriend and a 31-year-old man who had accompanied Rosario-Evangelista to the bar.
Reading police Sgt. John M. Solecki said police were interviewing neighbors and witnesses and studying security-camera images to try and identify the gunman.
According to Solecki:
Two men got into a fight as patrons were the bar at 10th and Elm streets about 2 a.m. One pulled a gun and fired six or seven shots in different directions.
Rosario-Evangelista was found dead in the 900 block of Elm Street.
Investigators said the gunman got into a car at Moss and Elm streets and left the area heading north.
