ROME TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A national manhunt has been issued for an Ashtabula County man after he allegedly shot and killed his wife.
Thomas J. Propst, 55, of Rome Township, Ohio, is suspected of shooting and killing his wife Tuesday night at the couple’s home on Dodgeville Road, according to Chief Deputy Ron Fenton with the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff’s deputies found Thomas’ wife, Paulette, dead at their home on Tuesday. The sheriff’s department said she suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Authorities also said Thomas’ 18-year-old daughter was in the shower at the time of the shooting, but was able to escape and call for help. Deputies believe that Propst also shot his horse before fleeing.
Thomas, who served time in the military, is considered armed and dangerous, according to the sheriff’s office.
Neighbors told ONN’s Cristin Severance that they are scared that Propst will return. Others said that the family had a history of domestic violence.
He is believed to be driving a 1990s model white Toyota pickup truck with the license plate number BV38QG.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call 911.
