A man who shot and killed his wife Wednesday in McDowell County remains in critical condition this afternoon at Charleston Area Medical Center.
Robert Johnson, 68, of Anawalt, is listed in critical condition at CAMC, but he is expected to recover, according to McDowell County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Mark Shelton.
Shelton said Johnson shot and killed his wife Patricia, 66, during an apparent domestic dispute in the O’toole community, near Anawalt.
Shelton said investigators are still sorting through the details of the apparent murder and attempted suicide.
Shelton said charges in the case are pending.
Both Robert and Patricia Johnson were shot in the head once.
Shelton said a child discovered Patricia Johnson shot. Shelton said Robert Johnson traveled to a relative’s house on an ATV where he then shot himself.
Widener’s Ambulance Service and the Upper Laurel Rescue Squad responded to the call. The sheriff’s department was assisted in the investigation by the Anawalt Police Department.
