STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. (AP) - A man will serve two life sentences after he was convicted of stabbing his girlfriend to death over graphic text messages found on her cell phone earlier this year.
A Henry County judge sentenced Dana McFarlane of Snellville on Friday after he was found guilty of malice murder, felony murder and kidnapping in the death of 34-year-old elementary school teacher Kinaya Byrd.
Authorities said McFarlane chased Byrd out of her Stockbridge home in February before dragging her back inside and killing her. McFarlane said the two were quarreling over sexual texts from another man he found on her phone.
Byrd taught at River's Edge elementary in Clayton County.
