Services are set for an Asheville native killed in Gastonia by her husband before he turned the gun on himself.
Laura Williams Newman, 47, was a graduate of Western Carolina University. She was a teaching assistant and cheerleading coach at Ashbrook High School in the Gastonia area.
The Gaston Gazette reported that Randall Newman, 45, shot his wife to death and then killed himself early Sunday morning while in a van parked at the Gastonia police station.
The couple is survived by two children.
