Orleans Parish officials have identified the 37-year-old New Orleans man who killed his estranged wife, then apparently killed himself near the Florida housing development Sunday night.
Police found Lewis Williams and Kimberly Williams, 35, outside the house on the 2400 block of Independence Street around 6 p.m., Orleans Parish coroner's chief investigator John Gagliano said.
The man apparently shot the woman outside the residence, then shot himself, a New Orleans Police Department spokeswoman, Officer Shereese Harper, said in a news release.
A revolver was lying on the ground next to the man.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was transported to a local hospital, where he later died, Harper said.
The incident was still under investigation on Sunday night, Harper said.

A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
