Yadkinville, NC -- A man was arrested Tuesday after investigators say he slit his wife's throat.
Dennis Hodges, 58, is charged in the murder of his wife, 45-year-old Debbie Hodges, according to Yadkin County Sheriff's deputies.
Major Danny Widener says a neighbor alerted deputies to a possible murder on Governors Lane Tuesday afternoon. Governors Lane is off Hoots Road outside Yadkinville.
Major Widener told WFMY News 2 that Debbie Hodges' throat was slit. He said they found her shortly after 5:00 pm.
He also says deputies responded to three domestic calls at the Hodges' home. They arrested Debbie Hodges for an alleged assault on her husband in 2009.
Next door neighbor Olga Silva says the two fought often. She remembers "the yelling.. screaming... the cursing." She also recalls "there were times that it didn't even happen inside their house."
"It would happen out here in
The neighbor who called 911 says he had previously dialed emergency responders multiple times to get help for the couple.
Hodges' death makes the third Triad investigation in which the husband is a suspect in the wife's death.
On April 2, Davie County deputies found Diane Smith dead inside her home with a gunshot wound. Her husband, 54-year-old Gordon Smith, is at Baptist Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. Smith indicated to hospital staff that he shot himself. He is currently stable condition.
Investigators say Gordon is being investigated as a suspect in his wife's murder, but has not been charged.
On March 24, a body, later identified as Retha Simpson, was found along a walking trail in Greensboro. She was reported missing by her husband a day earlier. Her husband, Winfred Simpson, was arrested and charged with her murder.
A search warrant indicates Simpson originally said he confronted his wife about talking to another man online and they got into a fight on March 18. Simpson said he last saw his wife on March 19 while leaving for work, according to the detectives report.
