A jury in Edinburg has ordered 99 years in prison for a man with a history of domestic violence who was convicted of killing his wife.

Jurors convicted 35-year-old Cesar Trejo of Alamo of murder in the 2008 shooting death of 24-year-old Mariana Tijerina. She was shot three times and her body was found on the family's front lawn.

Prosecutors say Trejo was a jealous husband who previously beat his spouse and accused her of having an affair. She had a restraining order against him.

Trejo on Tuesday described the gunfire, saying the first shot was an accident, the second shot he "meant that one" and the third shot came as Tijerina collapsed into his arms.

Trejo, who was sentenced Wednesday, still faces aggravated assault charges over a jailhouse fight.
