Columbus homicide detectives plan to search the town house of a North Side woman again today after her ex-boyfriend was fatally shot there.

Byron B. Baugh, 30, was shot several times at 9:30a.m. yesterday and died at 10:06 a.m. at Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus Patrol Sgt. James Branam said.

Officers were called to 4751 Stoneway Dr. in a complex north of Morse Road and east of Karl Road by Angelina Tatum, who said her ex-boyfriend had been outside, stumbled into her town house and collapsed on the floor. She said he wasn't breathing.

In a 911 call, Tatum said someone had been chasing Baugh before he was shot.

Officers, initially unclear whether an assault had occurred, discovered when they arrived that he had been shot.

Sgt. Eric Pilya of the homicide squad said some residents of the complex reported hearing what might have been four or five shots just before the call came in. He said detectives were getting a warrant to search Tatum's home while she was being interviewed at headquarters.

Tatum later was released. Police were holding her town house for further searches today.

Police also searched an adjoining town house after discovering that bullets had gone through a shared wall.

Tatum caused some confusion after mentioning to police 30 minutes after the shooting that Baugh had been caring in recent days for their 5-month-old baby boy, Branam said.

Police looked for the child for about 90 minutes before finding him unharmed at Baugh's Near East Side home with his current girlfriend, Pilya said.
