A Brooklyn man confessed to killing his girlfriend and two of her lovers after catching the trio in bed together, but police said his story was straight out of a soap opera.
Cops found the body of Deborah Blount, 51, in her Brownsville apartment Friday morning and arrested her boyfriend, John Brandon, at the scene, sources said.
The 50-year-old told cops he killed the woman and two men and had already chopped up his rivals' bodies and dumped them in New Jersey.
"This may be an elaborate tale to explain why he killed her," a police source told the Daily News Friday night. "We've looked at almost 48 hours of surveillance tape, and the only images we have are of the two of them going into the apartment."
Brandon was awaiting police when they arrived at the Eastern Parkway apartment around 8:30 a.m. Friday, cops said.
His story of a crime of passion was so good it even initially convinced the detectives investigating the killings.
"He brought two of the bodies to New Jersey where he carved them up and disposed of them," NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said earlier Friday night.
But cops changed their tune as the night went on, eventually coming to the conclusion that the triple murder was really just a single.
"Detectives still have one body, and they expect it to stay one body," a source said.
Brandon was still being questioned at the 73rd Precinct stationhouse Friday night.
Police were led to the apartment after learning of a voicemail the killer left for a friend, explaining that he'd killed the trio, Browne said.
Cops found Blount lying in a pool of blood in a back bedroom, sources said.
Neighbors said they saw the couple in the hallway around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, and nothing seemed amiss.
Blount moved into the first-floor apartment about a month ago, and Brandon stayed there many nights a week, neighbors said.
Luemay Facey, 32, heard a woman screaming for help early Friday morning, but didn't think it was a serious emergency, she said.
"I screamed out the window for them to shut up," Facey said. "I heard a lot of screaming and dogs barking Friday night, but I just went back to sleep. It went on for five minutes and then it stopped."
Facey woke up to police officers at her door asking questions about her neighbors.
"It dawned on me this morning that maybe I should have called the cops," she said. "I didn't take it seriously. Now I don't know what to think."
