A Taylorsville SWAT team operation ended when police discovered a man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday night, police said.
The 52-year-old man had locked himself in a bedroom while fighting with his girlfriend in a house near 3700 West and 5100 South, said Taylorsville Police Detective Shannon Bennett.
After he locked himself inside, the girlfriend and her granddaughter, who was also in the house, heard a shot and saw a round come through a wall toward them 9 p.m., Bennett said.
"They weren't sure if he was shooting at them," Bennett said, so they left the house and called police.
SWAT team officers arrived and set up a perimeter around the house. They tried to make contact with the man, but when they got no response, they entered the room. About midnight, officers found him dead of a single gunshot wound.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
