Alex Gregory
A 21-year-old man who fired shots Tuesday at a north side day care where his girlfriend works and later shot his girlfriend's sister killed himself Tuesday night as Milwaukee police tried to arrest him, officials said Wednesday.
According to a police spokesman and a Milwaukee County medical examiner's report:
Alex Gregory arrived at the day care in the 3200 block of N. 27th St. about 4 p.m. Gregory's girlfriend was working at the day care, and their two children are enrolled there, police Sgt. Mark Stanmeyer said.
Gregory fired shots into the air at the day care, Stanmeyer said. The medical examiner's report says Gregory tried to shoot his girlfriend. No one was injured by the shots.
Gregory then forced his girlfriend and their children into a vehicle, Stanmeyer said.
He dropped the children off unharmed at a house but took his girlfriend to a different house, near N. 7th and W. Cherry streets, where he locked her in a room and threatened to kill her and himself.
Gregory's girlfriend escaped from the home. Gregory fired shots at her but missed.
Gregory then went to his girlfriend's sister's home and shot the sister, who is 23 years old. She was listed in critical condition Wednesday but is expected to survive, Stanmeyer said.
Gregory then went to a relative's home in the 2700 block of N. 48th St.
Police arrived at the home about 11:30 p.m. and were let in by a family member, according to the medical examiner's report. Officers saw Gregory in the kitchen, but Gregory bobbed in and out of their view before shooting himself in the head, the report says.
Officers found a 9mm handgun in the kitchen, the report says. Gregory was pronounced dead at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa.
Gregory had been charged Monday with violating a domestic abuse temporary restraining order, and a warrant for his arrest had been issued, according to court records.
