GULFPORT, Miss. -- Gulfport police say the man suspected of fatally shooting 29-year-old David Fountain Shivers Jr. through a kitchen window two months ago is the estranged husband of a woman Shivers was dating.
Police took 31-year-old Darrell Ross Brooks of Gulfport into custody on a murder charge Wednesday. His bond was set at $1.5 million.
The Sun Herald reports Sgt. Chris Ryle stopped short of calling the relationship between Shivers and the woman a motive for the killing.
An autopsy showed Shivers died of a gunshot wound to the head.
It wasn't immediately clear if Brooks has an attorney.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
