Summerville, SC: Report: Husband beat estranged wife with bat, then killed himself

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) -
Investigators say a 60-year-old Summerville man killed himself after using a metal baseball bat to beat his estranged wife.
The Summerville Police Department responded to a home on Daffodil Street early Thursday morning in reference to a domestic dispute.
A witness told police that her mother was hit with a metal baseball bat. The witness said she heard her mother screaming and found her bleeding from the head.
The 56-year-old victim, who was taken to Trident Hospital, told officers that her husband, Robert Henry Ellis, had attacked her.
According to the victim, as she was opening her car door, Ellis snuck up behind her and hit her in the arms, head and back. The hospital reported that the victim was suffering from a laceration to her head and contusions on her arms, and was released after being treated.
Investigators say they then received a call from Ellis's son, who told them he just discovered his father had hanged himself.
Police say the victim had an order of protection against Ellis.
