Delaware County, OH: Man found dead after standoff in Delaware County

A Delaware County man who had surrendered his guns after a domestic-violence arrest last week shot his girlfriend and then killed himself early yesterday.
Deputies were called to the home of James A. Crego at 4397 Seldom Seen Rd. in Liberty Township about 1:35 a.m., Sheriff Russ Martin said.
Crego, 42, and his girlfriend were arguing when he threatened her with a gun and shot her in the back outside the house as she ran away, Martin said. She went to a neighboring house to seek help and call authorities.
Deputies and sheriff’s office SWAT members surrounded the house and attempted to contact Crego but received no response, Martin said.
Crego’s body was spotted outside the house several hours later as dawn approached. He shot himself, Martin said.
Deputies had been unable to see his body sooner because of the darkness.
His girlfriend, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
On Tuesday, Crego was arrested on charges of aggravated menacing, domestic violence and disorderly conduct following a dispute with his girlfriend.
He was released from jail on a $2,500 bond that required him to surrender his guns to the sheriff’s office.
An investigation continues to determine how Crego obtained another gun, Martin said.
