Richmond, VA: Suspect Identified In Murder-Suicide

Police say a man linked to two murders on Friday took his own life.

"At about 10:50 this morning we began a homicide investigation at 1212 Lakeview Avenue. A 36-year-old female, Trachelle Daniel, was shot and pronounced dead this morning at about 11:35 at VCU medical center," says Assistant Chief Dave McCoy with the Richmond Police Department.

The search for the suspect who shot Daniel while she was sitting in a parked car behind her home led police to Church Hill where they spent most of the afternoon.

"Our suspect from this morning saw an officer in this area and fled into an yard behind a privacy fence in the 1200 block of north 30th."

Just a few minutes later shots were fired around 5:30 in the afternoon.

"Our suspect from this morning was seen running from the yard and ran for about 40 yards. He then stopped and shot himself."

Prompted by a another gunshot heard moments earlier, officers followed the suspect's route about 50 yards into a yard in the 1200 block of North 30th Street.

There they discovered the body of 56-year-old Charles Jackson, dead of a single gunshot wound.

The suspect who committed suicide has been identified as 45-year-old Alvin Pleasants of 17 North 26th Street in Richmond.
