An Orange County man who told deputies that his wife had been killed in a home invasion has been arrested and charged in her death.
Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a home invasion about 11:03 p.m. Friday in the 1200 block of Sanderlin Avenue in East Orange County. Deborah Ratliff, 28, had been shot dead at the home.
During the investigation, the victim's husband, Robert Ratliff, 30, agreed to be interviewed by detectives at the sheriff's office central complex.
Ratliff told detectives that he and his wife had argued about an hour before the shooting, but he indicated that he had accidentally shot her.
After interviewing him extensively and examining evidence from the shooting scene, homicide investigators charged Ratliff in his wife's death.
He has been booked into the Orange County jail.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
