Seattle police SWAT team members went inside a home in the Maple Leaf neighborhood early Wednesdays morning to find a man dead, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident began as a domestic-violence case at 10:30 p.m.
Police say a man accused a woman of being unfaithful. He punched and choked her. He pushed her to the ground and wouldn't let her leave.
The man tried to get a gun out of a cabinet, giving the woman a chance to run to a neighbor's.
The man left, taking the woman's car. He also made threats of suicide.
Officers couldn't find him. They called in a SWAT team and negotiators because they knew the man had guns.
After several hours, officers went into the house in the 8200 block of Fourth Avenue Northeast to find the man dead in the basement.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
