Police officers raced to the 4900 block of Rancho Domingo in North Las Vegas Saturday night - hoping to resolve a violent confrontation.
Instead, they found a woman shot and killed inside her home and a man in critical condition.
North Las Vegas Police say he shot her to death, before turning the gun on himself. He was taken to UMC after the incident.
Police believe he's a once boyfriend of the victim. They say he and the victim have a child together.
Officers initially responded to the scene after reports of at least one shot fired from inside a home, near Casa Del Norte and Commerce.
They arrived, only to hear more gunshots from outside the home. Officers made entry, but by that point, they say the woman was already dead.
The startling sounds alarmed the North Las Vegas neighborhood.
"Out of nowhere, boom. I looked at my cousin and said, did you hear that? A couple of seconds, we heard another one boom," said neighbor John Proby.
North Las Vegas police say they'll have to work with police in Texas to put all of the pieces of the puzzle together. That's where the suspect was visiting from.
"I think this is going to be a situation of what his motive was when he arrived here. We don't know at this point, but we don't believe he was here long," said Sgt. Tim Bedwell, with North Las Vegas Police.
Police say they also found a 16-year-old girl unharmed in the home, physically okay but emotionally feeling a great loss with the rest of the victim's family.
