Man sentenced for strangling woman to death

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

Michael Jackson, 47, was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison for strangling to death a woman in the cab of his truck in St. Louis on June 2, 2007.

Police found Jackson with the body of Yolanda Curry, 42, moments after the murder. Witnesses had called officers after they heard screaming in the truck, which was parked in the 5400 block of West Florissant Avenue. An autopsy revealed she had been beaten and then strangled.

A St. Louis jury convicted Jackson of second-degree murder in April.

The defense said her death was an accident after the pair drank too much. Curry lived in the 4900 block of Arlington Avenue.

At the sentencing hearing, Jackson told the victim's family that he was sorry.

“I know you are hurting in a bad way,” he said. “I hope that you would find it in your hearts to forgive me for this.”
