ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH Michael Jackson, 47, was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison for strangling to death a woman in the cab of his truck in St. Louis on June 2, 2007. Police found Jackson with the body of Yolanda Curry, 42, moments after the murder. Witnesses had called officers after they heard screaming in the truck, which was parked in the 5400 block of West Florissant Avenue. An autopsy revealed she had been beaten and then strangled. A St. Louis jury convicted Jackson of second-degree murder in April. The defense said her death was an accident after the pair drank too much. Curry lived in the 4900 block of Arlington Avenue. At the sentencing hearing, Jackson told the victim's family that he was sorry. “I know you are hurting in a bad way,” he said. “I hope that you would find it in your hearts to forgive me for this.” |
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
