Yuma, AZ: Border agent dies in apparent murder-suicide

YUMA, Ariz. (AP) — Sheriff's officials in Yuma County have identified the girlfriend of a U.S. Border Patrol agent killed in an apparent murder-suicide.

Capt. Eben Bratcher said Thursday that 34-year-old Briana Kilty was shot by her boyfriend, 36-year-old Border Patrol Agent Robert C. Nelson, who then shot himself.

Both bodies were found inside a home early Wednesday.

Sheriff's deputies received a call at around 4:15 a.m. about a domestic violence situation. The caller said her brother had told her that he had killed his girlfriend and was going to kill himself.

Kilty's 11-year-old daughter was found unharmed inside the house. The girl has been placed into Child Protective Services.

Nelson joined the agency in 2005 and was assigned to the Yuma Sector.
