Copley Township, OH: Copley Township police investigating apparent murder-suicide of elderly couple

COPLEY TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Police in Copley Township are investigating what the chief said appears to be a murder-suicide.

A family member found the couple, who is in their 80s, dead in their bed Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at their home on Aberth Drive near Henetta Avenue, according to Copley Township Police Chief Michael Mier.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office said the two people found dead have been identified as 89-year-old Genevive Wellspring and her husband, 86-year-old Dayton Wellspring. Both died of a gunshot wound.

Mier said a note was left and other information suggested that this was a murder-suicide.

"There was some indication that at least one of the two had some health issues," said Mier in a news release.

Officers also recovered the handgun believed to have been used in the killings. Police are not yet saying who they believe pulled the trigger.

The medical examiner's office is expected to perform autopsies on the couple.
