OXNARD, Calif. — The murder trial of a Southern California woman accused of killing her husband, an Olympic medalist in the shot put, has been postponed.
The trial of 55-year-old Jane Laut for the 2009 shooting death of Dave Laut was to have begun Tuesday, but a judge delayed it to Oct. 2 after both sides asked for more time.
Jane Laut has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the killing of Dave Laut, a star shot-putter who won a bronze medal in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
The Lauts were high school sweethearts and married for 29 years.
Ventura County prosecutors claim Jane Laut shot her husband in cold blood in their Oxnard backyard.
But Jane Laut's lawyer said she was attempting to protect herself after years of abuse.
