CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Jurors have decided a South Texas man must stand trial over the 2010 fatal shooting of his girlfriend and the wounding of four friends.
A jury in Corpus Christi on Wednesday found Jose Francisco Guillen of Port Aransas (uh-RAN'-suhs) competent for trial Sept. 24. He's charged with murder and four counts of aggravated assault.
Lanae Wesner of Kerrville was killed and four other people wounded during a cookout in Port Aransas. Investigators say Guillen was barefoot when he fled and allegedly took a taxi, stopped to buy shoes and headed for Corpus Christi International Airport.
The cabbie called police about a passenger wanting the first plane to California. Guillen was arrested at Houston's William P. Hobby Airport.
Another jury last year decided Guillen, who remains in custody, was not competent.
