El Paso, TX: Elderly woman found dead in Northeast home; husband arrested (updated)

Update: An 81-year-old man allegedly told police dispatchers that he shot his wife just after midnight this morning in Northeast El Paso.

Ervin Maier was arrested in connection with the slaying of his wife Okin Maier, 76.

Police said Ervin Maier called disatchers and told them he shot his wife at about 12:05 a.m.

When police arrived to the couple's house on the 10700 block of Fort Worth they found Okin Maier dead with a gunshot wound.

Crimes Against Persons investigators found a handgun they believe Ervin Maier used in the house.

Ervin Maier was taken to Beaumont Army Medical Center to be treated for a medical condition, police said.

Once he was released, he was placed under arrest and booked into El Paso County Jail under a $150,000 bond.

He is facing murder charges.

The shooting is the 15th homicide of the year, police said. At this point last year there were 14 homicides.

Previous: Police are investigating the death of an elderly woman who was found when officers responded to a shots fired call this morning in Northeast El Paso.

Police found the woman at around 12:10 a.m. inside a house on the 10700 block of Fort Worth, said El Paso Police Department spokesman Darrel Petry.

A man was also found at the house and transported to Beaumont Army Medical Center to be treated for an undisclosed reason, Petry said.

Crimes Against Persons investigators said they do not have any reason to believe there is a missing suspect, Petry said.

The cause of the woman's death or the reason the man was taken to the hospital has not been released.

More information is not available on the man or the woman at this time.
