Seth Techel shot and killed his pregnant wife with a shotgun apparently so that he could continue an extramarital affair, Wapello County officials alleged in court documents released Thursday.
Techel is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of his wife, Lisa Techel, a 23-year-old reserve Wapello County Sheriff’s deputy who was pregnant with her first child when she died Saturday. Seth Techel also faces the charge of nonconsensual termination of a human pregnancy.
The criminal complaint against Techel alleges Techel was having an extramarital affair with a woman named Rachel McFarland. Friday, a day before Lisa Techel’s slaying, Seth Techel apparently told his wife “that he was not happy with their marriage.”
Seth Techel told police that he was taking a shower early Saturday when he heard a loud noise. He exited the shower to find Lisa Techel with a gunshot wound.
Detectives found no evidence Lisa Techel’s wounds were self-inflicted or that an intruder entered the house, court documents allege.
