Pickens County, S.C.: Coroner: Man killed girlfriend, then himself

PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. -

Two people found dead in a Pickens County home died in a murder-suicide, investigators say.

Investigators believe that Jeff Carroll shot Kelly Metcalf and then himself. Both died of single gunshot wounds to the head, according to the coroner.

Nicole Davis said she found the bodies of her mother and her mother's boyfriend in the bedroom of their home on Red Oak Court.

"That was my mom, my best friend. She was a good person and she did not deserve this," said Davis. "Me and my brother had to walk in, and see them in the bed. (Carroll) laying right beside (my mom) and her being covered up with covers."

Davis said she used a spare key to get into the home after relatives were unable to reach Metcalf.

The couple split up about two months ago, but recently reconciled and were planning to marry, Davis said.

"(My mom) had just picked out her (wedding) dress, and put money down on it, and she had wanted that for so many years," said Davis. "It's just something you don't ever want to have to go through. Never. Not one of your parents."

Metcalf was a mother of three and had two grandchildren.
