New Braunfels, TX: Couple dead in possible murder-suicide

A New Braunfels couple was found dead in a locked bedroom at a mobile home this morning, and police are investigating the deaths as a possible murder-suicide.

Elizabeth Trevino, 37, and her husband, Augustine Garcia, 39, were discovered dead in the 2800 block of Windgate Drive by one of Trevino's three daughters around 7:20 a.m. Monday, according to relatives and New Braunfels police Capt. John McDonald.

Both suffered gunshot wounds to the head, and the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was also in the bedroom, McDonald said.

“We believe it's a possible murder-suicide with some evidence of family violence,” he said. “Over the last few days, it looks like there had been a dispute between the two.”

Relatives said the couple and Trevino's daughters, two of whom reportedly were fathered by Garcia, were together at Trevino's parents' home on Easter.

Garcia left after a while and summoned Trevino to the home, they said. Neighbors and Trevino's relatives said the couple had separated recently, and she was staying with family nearby.

“She was called over to the house to have a meeting with her husband,” McDonald said. “It is possible that the deaths occurred yesterday evening or last night.”

Trevino's relatives at the scene said the three daughters — all teenagers — stayed at their grandparents' house Sunday night. One of the girls found the bodies after returning home to get ready for school Monday, relatives said.

  1. I'm a survivor of DV and a resident of New Braunfels. This makes me so angry. Hopefully there are answers soon. Comal County needs more resources for victims of these kind of tragedies.
