ANDERSON — An Anderson man is facing nine counts of animal cruelty and a count of strangulation after allegedly choking his girlfriend and killing a dog and eight new-born puppies, Anderson police announced today.
Dennis White, 46, is being accused of beating and strangling his girlfriend on Feb. 23 after she refused to give him some of her tax refunds.
The victim's pet, Coco, bit White's leg, to try to rescue her, allowing her to escape. White then stabbed Coco and her eight puppies, according to a news release from Anderson police.
White was arrested Wednesday after a police investigation.
According to Anderson police, White was covered in blood when he went to a grocery store last week to buy some cigarettes.
White, who is out on bond from Randolph County on four counts of battery and one count of child molestation, confessed to strangling his girlfriend. He told investigators he was forced to stab Coco after she bit him, but did not explain how the eight puppies were killed.
He is now being held in the Madison County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond.
A police investigation is ongoing.
