LIBBY, Mont. — A 52-year-old Libby woman charged with shooting her husband to death last month has denied the charges.
Kristina Welch pleaded not guilty to deliberate homicide Monday before District Judge James B. Wheelis in Libby. She was jailed on $500,000 bail.
Court records say Welch told officers the gun fell on the floor later that night and they both went for it.
Welch is charged with shooting 50-year-old Charles Bryan Welch on Dec. 8.
Investigators say Kristina Welch told them she had been arguing with her husband and at one point he took out a gun, but did not point it at her.
Court records say Welch told officers the gun fell on the floor later that night and they both went for it. She says she got to it first and shot him in what she thought was his arm. He was shot in the torso.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
