The husband of a 53-year-old woman found dead Friday morning in her North Las Vegas home has been arrested in connection with her death, police said.

Officers had responded Dec. 28 to the couple’s home in the 1000 block of East Hammer after a violent domestic disturbance, police said.

The woman, whose name has not been released, had suffered multiple injuries during the attack, including contusions to her face and head, but she refused medical attention despite the advice of personnel on the scene, police said.

Officers arrested her husband, 57-year-old Douglas Jones, on a count of domestic battery with substantial bodily harm that day and booked him into the North Las Vegas Detention Center, police said.

Other family members who lived in the home called police again Friday to report the woman dead, authorities said.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office ruled the victim’s death a homicide, possibly the result of the injuries she suffered during the alleged fight with her husband Dec. 28, officials said.

Jones had remained in custody since the Dec. 28 incident, but detectives rebooked Jones in the North Las Vegas Detention Center on a murder charge, police said.

Police said this was the seventh homicide in North Las Vegas in 2011. Detectives are treating this as a 2011 case because the act that allegedly led to the victim’s death occurred in that year.

Anyone with information is asked to call the North Las Vegas Police Department at 702-633-9111 or, to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or visit www.crimestoppersofnv.com.
