Investigators suspect the boyfriend of a Casco Township woman found murdered in a Puttygut Road home of committing a grizzly crime Saturday morning.
Carrie Neusius, 26, was found dead inside a brick ranch in the rural community. A 46-year-old man she had been dating and living with is the prime suspect. Authorities did not release his identity Monday, saying he would be arraigned on an undetermined murder charge sometime tomorrow or Wednesday. He was being held in the St. Clair County Intervention and Detention Center as of Monday afternoon.

“It was an extremely violent homicide” said St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon.
The sheriff’s office, with the assistance of the Michigan State Police, is investigating the death.
Donnellon reported deputies received a call of a suspicious situation at about 10 a.m. Saturday. The father of Neusis’ live-in boyfriend told authorities he went to the house that morning, after having a conversation with the man earlier that day, and heard strange noises, prompting him to call 911.
A deputy and troopers from Michigan State Police then went to the home at 9275 Puttygut Rd. and found bullet holes in the side of the house; they suspect the holes came from the inside. As the law enforcement agents looked over the house one deputy looked through a window saw a woman who appeared to be dead. The woman was later identified as Neusius.
Officers then called for backup and made entry into the house. A man was found in the home, uninjured but intoxicated. The suspect was first taken to River District Hospital. Once medically cleared, he was transferred to custody of the sheriff’s department and lodged at the county jail.
The sheriff’s department and Michigan State Police investigators are continuing to investigate.
An autopsy confirmed that Neusius was shot at least one time, a Monday afternoon press release revealed.
