CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Police are investigating a murder-suicide that happened in a northeast Charlotte neighborhood.
Investigators released the identity of the female victim as 32-year-old Stephanie Ott. The male suspect was identified as 52-year-old Robert Stover.
Fire crews arrived at the home on Donna Drive after reports of a possible fire around 1 a.m on Sunday. Police arrived after reports of a forced entry at the house.
They said a car was on fire when they got to the scene. When they entered the house they found Ott dead inside. Police canvassed the neighborhood looking for a suspect.
They said they found Stover in a shed at the back of the home. Investigators said he barricaded himself in there and then shot himself.
Neighbors told Eyewitness News that Stover was the president of their neighborhood association.
They said Ott had just moved into the house with Stover.
"I mean it's pretty shocking...move out here to get away from stuff like this," Melvyn Moulder said.
Investigators said accelerant was used on the house in an attempt to burn it. Firefighters said they would stay on scene until they were sure it was safe.
