A Plymouth man is facing charges that he shot and killed his girlfriend’s dog, police said.
William J. Pomroy, 64, was arraigned Wednesday in Plymouth District Court, said Plymouth Police Captain John Rogers.
Pomroy faces several charges, including malicious killing of a domestic animal, and was released on his own recognizance.
Police received a call from Pomroy shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday, claiming that his girlfriend’s dog, a 1 1/2-year-old chocolate Lab, had come at him and that he shot the dog, Rogers said.
“It was a single gunshot wound,” Rogers said. “Based on our investigation, we feel that it was a malicious and unwarranted act.”
The circumstances indicate Pomroy had been drinking, Rogers said. Pomroy’s license to carry and his weapons have been seized. He will return to court Oct. 8.
