MIDWEST CITY — A woman has died of gunshot wounds inflicted by her boyfriend before he killed himself, police said Monday.
This was the second murder-suicide of the year in Midwest City, Police Chief Brandon Clabes said.
Rebecca Rankin Merrick, 44, was shot once in the head and once in the torso on Saturday. She died about 10 p.m. Sunday at OU Medical Center.
Her boyfriend, Charles Wayne Murrah, 45, was found dead at their house with a gunshot wound to the head.
Police were sent Saturday to the 300 block of West Mimosa in response to a 911 call and found Alicia Merrick, 18, who said her mother's boyfriend shot her mother in the head. She told police the boyfriend then pointed the gun at her, but she ran from the house.
In a recording of the 911 call released Monday, Alicia Merrick is heard calling police from a neighbor's phone, crying hysterically.
“I saw him shoot her in the head and stomach,” she told dispatchers.
Throughout the call, Alicia Merrick cries and screams to a dispatcher for help. She said she's afraid her mother is dead.
Clabes said the couple had recently moved to Midwest City and had been dating several years.
He said Murrah was from Del City, and Merrick was from Yukon.
