CLEAR BROOK — The Frederick County Sheriff's Office has labeled the case of the two people found dead Saturday as a murder-suicide.
The bodies of Michael Cross, 51, and his wife Susan Cross, 46, were discovered by a family member about 11:45 a.m. at 451 Winding Hill Road.
Autopsies on the two bodies were completed today.
“Mrs. Cross is the victim of a murder,” Capt. John Heflin of the Sheriff’s Office said. “Mr. Cross died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
The weapon found at the scene is a semi-automatic pistol.
Heflin said the crime happened several hours prior to the discovery of the bodies and the family member who discovered the couple did not hear gun shots, they were just visiting the couple like the do most weekends.
The Cross home is on a farm off Frog Hollow Road near the West Virginia border about 10 miles outside of Winchester.
Additional evidence from the scene was sent to the new lab at the Virginia Department of Forensic Science and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Prince William County, but will most likely not be back for eight to 12 weeks.
