The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the murder/suicide of two people found by deputies around 9 p.m. Wednesday night in the 200 block of S. Military Road.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman George Bonnett, said deputies responded to a 911 call at the Military Road house. The caller was a family member who asked the deputies check the house, because they had not heard or seen the couple since Tuesday morning.
When deputies got to the house, they found a man and woman dead inside.
Both of them had gunshot wounds, and deputies found a handgun near the couple.
The bodies were taken to the St. Tammany Coroner’s Office for autopsy. Coroner spokesperson Melanie Croft said Thursday afternoon the death of the woman, Carol Nilsson, 63, has been rules a homicide. She died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Croft said the Coroner’s Office is still trying to confirm the identity of the male, but she did say his death is classified as suicide. He was killed by a bullet to the mouth Croft said. David Thames
Bonnett said the office will continue the investigation but at this point, investigators do not believe anybody else was involved in the incident.
Bonnett said the couple had been living together at the residence for approximately 10 years.
