Belleville, IL: Ill. woman convicted in husband's shooting death

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A jury in southwestern Illinois deliberated for 20 minutes before finding an East St. Louis woman guilty of killing her husband.

Prosecutors in St. Clair County had charged 48-year-old Josephine Lockett with involuntary manslaughter in the July 16, 2010, death of 73-year-old Louis Lockett. Investigators say the shooting took place after the Locketts got into an argument in the kitchen of their home.

After the jurors announced their verdict Tuesday, St. Clair County Circuit Judge Jan Fiss set an Oct. 6 sentencing date.

The Belleville News-Democrat (http://bit.ly/ncXoK8 ) reports that the judge decided to allow Lockett to remain free on bond until she's sentenced due to her medical condition. She suffers from cancer.
