Memphis, TN: 2 dead, including officer, in Independence Day shooting at Memphis hotel

(Memphis 7/3/2011) A Memphis Police officer and a civilian were shot and killed at the Doubletree Hotel at Third and Union in Downtown Memphis.

Officer Timothy Warren was shot as he responded to a shooting call at the hotel.

He was pronounced dead at The MED.

Officer Warren had been on the force since 2003, he leaves behind a wife and two small children.

Officers were called to the hotel for a domestic disturbance after a man reportedly shot and killed the father of his girlfriend.

Reports indicate the man encountered Officer Warren in a stairwell and shot the officer in his head.

The suspect is in custody and being treated for minot injuries a The MED.

Statement From Memphis Police:

""Officers were dispatched at approximately 7 p.m. to the Doubletree concerning shots fired.

Upon arriving on the scene, officers checked the location at which time 1 officer was shot.

The officer was transported in extremely critical condition. 1 possible suspect is in custody."
