Police in Oregon say a woman and her four children pulled from a burning home might have been stabbed before the fire even started.
Police believe 51-year-old Jordan Adam Criado stabbed his wife and young children and set fire to their Medford home, killing all five.
Emergency crews were called to the home around 9:45 a.m. Monday morning by neighbors who saw smoke.
Firefighters pulled 30-year-old Tabasha Paige-Criado and the couple's children - three boys aged 5, 6 and 7 and their two-year-old daughter -- from the burning home and treated them on the front lawn before taking them to the hospital, where all five were pronounced dead.
Jordan Criado was also taken to the hospital with stab wounds. He has not been charged in the crime, but police are not letting him leave.
"That is the suspicion right now — the fellow we have up at the hospital under guard is responsible," said Medford Police Chief Tim George. George said the five dead had suffered stab wounds and smoke inhalation.
Earlier in the morning, a man at the house called in a missing person report for the mother. Police said she returned unharmed after being located a few blocks away.
Neighbors said the family moved in less than a year ago, and seemed nice. The mother occasionally took the children out for walks.
