Police say the owner of a local club was
shot to death early today at his northeast
Jackson home, and his girlfriend has been
charged with murder.
Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-
Stewart identified the victim as Houston
Turnage, 33, of 1242 Ferntree Drive in
Jackson. Turnage suffered a single gunshot
wound to the chest, she said.
Police spokeswoman Colendula Green said
Atlean Thomas, 45, of the same Ferntree
address has been charged after being
taken into custody at the scene.
The victim was the owner of Floods, a local
club, Green said.
Thomas was in the Jackson city jail awaiting
transport to the Hinds County Detention
center late this morning, Green said.
Thomas’ initial court appearance will be
Monday, she said.
Green said officers received a call at 6:28
a.m. today in reference to the shooting.
Officers arrived at the Ferntree Drive home
to find the victim dead of a single gunshot
wound, Green said. “The deceased
subject’s girlfriend was taken into custody,”
she said. “They had some type verbal
altercation” which led to the woman
allegedly shooting the man, she said.
“We don’t know the nature of the
argument. We do know that there was an
argument which resulted in him being
shot,” Green said.
Both the victim and Thomas lived at the
Ferntree home, she said. There were no
witnesses, Green said.
