A Bronx woman was stabbed to death by her boyfriend in front of neighbors and police Tuesday, leading a stand-off that ended with cops shooting the man two or three times, police said.
Frederick Mendez, 53, stabbed to death Terenace Williams, 57, after she reportedly refused to have sex with him, the Daily News reported. The couple had a history of violence, and neighbors said he had spent the night before passed out on the street next to an empty bottle of cognac, the newspaper said.
Police reportedly arrived as Mendez was stabbing Williams and trying to throw her off the balcony of the Needham Ave. apartment the couple shared in the Bronx.
Cops fired at Mendez, forcing him back into the apartment. Neighbors grabbed Williams, a nurse, and she was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Police negotiated with Mendez for hours, but NYPD eventually entered the apartment and Mendez surrendered. He was taken to Jacobi for gunshot wounds and was in stable condition.
Police wouldn't confirm the identities of the victim or the suspect, but said charges against the suspect are pending.
