Manokin, MD: Court Document: Boyfriend Allegedly Confessed to Woman's Murder

MANOKIN, Md. - Court papers say that an off-and-on boyfriend of missing Delmar, Del., mother Whitney Bennett allegedly confessed to a source inside the Wicomico County Detention Center that he murdered the woman, whose body was found buried in a wooded area in Somerset County.

Fruitland resident William A. Hill, 23, who is behind bars on unrelated sex abuse charges, allegedly told a confidential source that he killed Bennett, 23, and disposed of her body, helped by his father, Claude H. Hill.

Bennett, a Delmar resident and mother of three children, vanished in December 2010. After a tip, investigators found her body last weekend, buried in a makeshift grave in Somerset County.

Authorities charged Claude H. Hill, 49, and his stepson, Steven L. Akers, 36, last Saturday with being accessory after the fact and obstruction of justice.

No charges related to Bennett's death had been filed against William Hill as of Thursday afternoon. Bennett's death had not officially been ruled a homicide, and no cause of death had been established as of Thursday afternoon.

According to court documents, witnesses said they had seen William and Claude Hill in December 2010 at the location where Bennett's body was found.

Another unidentified source said he helped Akers install two trail cameras at the location, allegedly to track movement around the makeshift grave, the court papers said.
