The ex-boyfriend of one of two women shot to death on Valentine's Day in the Lower Northeast has been arrested, police said.
Shaun C. Warrick, 27, was found Thursday in the 3800 block of North Darien Street in Hunting Park and arrested without incident by homicide detectives and U.S. marshals.
Warrick was charged with two counts of murder and related offenses for the fatal shootings of his ex-girlfriend, Tiffany Barnhill, 19, and her cousin, Mercedes Ivery, 21.
William Ivery, 75, Mercedes Ivery's grandfather, said he was happy Warrick had been caught.
"We just hoped they'd get him, and they got him," said Ivery, of West Oak Lane.
Police called to Ivery's home in the 5400 block of Rutland Street in Northwood near Oxford Circle on the afternoon of Feb. 14 found both women dead on the second floor. They had been shot multiple times.
Homicide Capt. James Clark said Barnhill had just ended a relationship with Warrick. Clark said Ivery apparently was killed because she was in "the wrong place at the wrong time."
Clark said he did not know Warrick's connection to the Darien Street location; Warrick lives in the 5100 block of North Warnock Street.
Ivery said his granddaughter had been working at a nursing home and was studying to be a nurse.
Warrick is being held without bail. He was sentenced to probation in 2005 for carrying a firearm without a license and altering its serial number.
He was charged with aggravated assault and related firearms offenses in 2003, but the case was dismissed.
