The Bourbon County deputy coroner said Wednesday that preliminary results on a couple found dead in their home over the weekend indicated the incident could be a murder-suicide.
The bodies of Paul Barbee, 42, and his wife, Maryanne, 39, were discovered in their North Middletown home Sunday. Both died of gunshot wounds.
The deputy coroner indicated Wednesday that it appears that Paul Barbee shot his wife and then killed himself. However, he said they are still waiting for more tests results to confirm the theory.
A memorial fund has been set up for the family of the couple, who left behind left behind four children, including a 19-year-old who will now have to raise two of her siblings. Family friends say Paige Barbee will now likely have to raise her two younger siblings.
"It's such a sad situation," said neighbor Betty McCord. "We'll have to just help them get through this."
Many people who knew Maryanne Barbee from her work in the kitchen at Midmart say they'll be reaching out to the couple's children.
A fund is also set up to help them and to pay for funeral expenses. You can donate to the Barbee Family Memorial Fund at any Kentucky Bank in Paris.
A joint funeral is set for Paul and Maryanne Barbee. Their visitation is Thursday at noon at Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home in Paris, with their funeral to follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
