DOWNTOWN (KTLA) -- A Los Angeles fire captain charged with torturing and murdering a woman whose body was found near his home pleaded not guilty Wednesday.
David Jaime Del Toro, 50, is charged in connection with the violent murder of Jennifer Flores in 2006.
Flores, 42, was found strangled to death and "beaten to a pulp" on a street less than a mile from Del Toro's home. A blood trail led investigators to Del Toro's driveway and DNA evidence further linked Del Toro, who was dating Flores, according to claims from the District Attorney's office.
Del Toro could face 25-years-to-life in state prison if charged. Prosecutors have also decided against seeking the death penalty.
Del Toro's trial is expected to last four to five weeks. He was previously charged with torturing the victim and was taken into custody. He is now free on bail.
