A Davenport man is in custody at the Scott County Jail in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found in the street on Davenport’s west side early Monday morning.
Davenport police late Monday afternoon identified the victim as Wanda Jo Weldy, 38, of Davenport. The death is being investigated as a homicide, according to a news release issued by Davenport Police Capt. David Struckman.
Struckman said that Eric Scott Olsen, 36, has been arrested and charged with violation of a court order-domestic protection order. He is being held without bond in jail.
The person who was to be protected by the order was Weldy, Struckman said.
According to the release, Olsen was arrested by Davenport officers late Thursday at 1621 W. 14th St. and charged with domestic assault, and the victim was Weldy. A protective order was granted listing Weldy as the protected person. Olsen was released from jail on Friday.
Olsen also was arrested by Davenport police on Nov. 12, 2010, at the same address and charged with domestic assault with injury. Weldy was the victim then also.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday morning in Iowa City. Struckman said the investigation is continuing and additional charges are anticipated.
Emergency personnel were called at 1:55 a.m. Monday to the 2700 block of North Fairmount Street after receiving a report of a woman lying in the middle of the roadway.
Emergency crews found Weldy unresponsive, and she was transported by Medic to Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme Street, Davenport, where she was pronounced dead.
The body had suffered significant physical trauma, according to a news release from the police department.
Fairmount Road was closed while evidence was being gathered at the crime scene.
